What is it about?
A recurring series of outbreaks of a new type of infectious immune impairment is leading to periods of rapid growth in emergency admissions and costs

Why is it important?
The ageing population has been largely blamed for the increase in emergency admissions. However, emergency admissions are growing in a way that defies this explanation.
Perspectives
Outbreaks of this new agent have been documented in all Western countries and also lead to periods of totally unexplained higher death. For the moment it seems that it is politically expedient to blame the NHS rather than inform the public regarding the existence of this new disease.
