Why is it important?

Public Health agencies were previously unaware of these extended periods of higher death or had ignored them as a quirk of nature. Clearly something capable of killing large numbers of people just may be important!

Perspectives

The evidence for these events is written all over health care and mortality data from around the world, see http://www.hcaf.biz/2010/Publications_Full.pdf
