What is it about?
2012 witnessed a large and unexpected increase in deaths in the UK. The increase in deaths was single year of age specific which is highly suggestive of 'original antigenic sin' - the process of priming the immune system to a series of infections by different strains of the same agent.

Why is it important?
This type of age-specific behavior was first observed for influenza. The 2012 increase was never explained but this evidence suggests involvement of an infectious agent. The unexpected increases in deaths have continued in 2014 and 2016. This single-year-of-age specificity is also seen in medical admissions which has also been documented in Australia (unpublished).
