What is it about?
This is a study of some aspects of the terminology of Carl von Clausewitz's On War. It maintains that Clausewitz regarded the concept of tension as crucial to warfare as he argued that the main battle, deciding a war, must be fought in the condition of utmost tension. He also raises the point that it is usually difficult to recognise the significance of battles while they are being fought and that, by consequence, the main battle can only be determined in retrospect.
