What is it about?

This paper summarises 25 years of research into client expectations of interpreters and what interpreters think of their own role. It shows some serious problems with the methods researchers have used so far and suggests that recent research from Ebru Diriker and Seyda Eraslan might just have provided the beginnings of a solution.

Why is it important?

By being critical about the methods researchers use, they can develop better ones and provide research into client expectations and interpreter views that are useful for the profession.

Perspectives

While I was discouraged by the time it took for this paper to get published, it is still a useful summary of work done before 2013. I am currently working on a follow up with Graham Turner.
