What is it about?

This publication explores the factors influencing entrepreneurial intentions and attitudes toward business creation among Emirati students using Bayesian Networks (BNs). It identifies critical drivers like attitudes, self-efficacy, subjective norms, and opportunity feasibility, while also examining barriers such as perceived risks and obstacles. The study demonstrates how BNs, as an innovative analytical tool, uncover complex interrelationships between these factors, providing deeper insights into what motivates or hinders young Emiratis from pursuing entrepreneurship. It emphasizes the role of education, cultural support, and policy interventions in fostering a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem aligned with the UAE's vision for economic diversification and innovation.

Why is it important?

This publication is important because it introduces Bayesian Networks as a novel method to model entrepreneurial intentions, providing deeper insights into the relationships between factors like attitudes, self-efficacy, and societal norms. It offers actionable guidance for fostering entrepreneurship among Emirati youth, a key driver of innovation and economic diversification in the UAE. By addressing barriers and leveraging supportive factors, the research helps policymakers and educators create more effective programs to nurture a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Perspectives

Entrepreneurship is the cornerstone of economic diversification and innovation, particularly in the UAE's evolving economy. From my perspective, this study not only contributes to the academic discourse on entrepreneurial intentions but also provides practical insights for policymakers, educators, and institutions to foster a robust entrepreneurial culture. 1. Pioneering Methodology: The use of Bayesian Networks in this study represents an innovative leap in understanding entrepreneurial intentions. Unlike traditional methods, this approach uncovers complex interdependencies among factors, providing a clearer roadmap for enhancing entrepreneurial behavior. 2. Empowering Emirati Youth: The findings emphasize the critical role of attitudes, self-efficacy, and subjective norms in shaping entrepreneurial intentions. I believe that fostering these elements, particularly among Emirati youth, is essential to harnessing their potential and aligning their ambitions with national economic goals. 3. Bridging Knowledge and Practice: By linking attitudes and self-efficacy to actionable entrepreneurial intentions, this research bridges the gap between theoretical frameworks and real-world applications. I see this as an opportunity for universities and government bodies to design targeted interventions that address barriers and amplify supportive factors. 4. Policy Implications: The study highlights the influence of subjective norms and family support, suggesting that entrepreneurship must be culturally normalized and celebrated. Policies that recognize and reward entrepreneurial contributions can inspire a generational shift toward innovation and self-reliance. 5. Role of Education: Universities play a pivotal role in shaping entrepreneurial attitudes and capabilities. From my perspective, integrating entrepreneurship into curricula and fostering industry collaborations can significantly enhance opportunity feasibility and self-efficacy among students. 6. Global Relevance: While the focus is on Emirati students, the insights are globally applicable, particularly in regions seeking to empower youth through entrepreneurship. This study offers a replicable model for fostering entrepreneurship in diverse socio-economic contexts. This publication reflects my belief in the transformative power of innovative research methods and actionable insights to drive sustainable economic growth through entrepreneurship.
