What is it about?

Austin Marsden Farrer (October 1, 1904-December 29, 968) was the most remarkable theologian writing in English in his era. His work, like his personality, ws many-faceted and complex. He cannot easily be dropped into a single category or school of thought. He published pastoral, biblical, and philosophical theology, including sermons and theological meditations as well as argumentative philosophy, critical biblical study, and doctrinal theology. He can be fascinating to consider and most difficult to master.

Why is it important?

This essay presents an overview of Farrer's work and themes with particular attention to his writing on the problem of evil, providence, the role of transforming images in faith, and the Christian hope. The heavenly end and future hope give meaning to all that is done and encountered in the present; and the only way to approach and realize the future hope of salvation in Christ is through daily life.
