What is it about?

This book is about how filmmakers and regulators across Asia deal with sexuality and moral issues in films. In seperate chapters it looks at Japan, India, China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan), South Korea, Malaysia and Singapore. Throughout the book comparisons are made between the different countries, along with descriptions of film rating (classification) systems in each country.

Why is it important?

I was motivated to write this book after noticing changes in on-screen promiscuity in Indian cinema over the past decade. The book is important because it provides (in one publication) an opportunity to compare different attitudes and regulations in films across the region.

Perspectives

This book contains examples of films and screenshots to help illustrate differences between what is allowable in, say, a Japanese film compared to a Chinese film.
