What is it about?

Telangana is one of the youngest states, the twenty-eighth state in the Indian Union which was formed on June 2, 2014, having separated from Andhra Pradesh. Hence, the history of Telangana cannot be separated from that of Andhra Pradesh. Women in Telangana have been very actively involved in various socio-political movements. They have multiple identities and hence they have participated in their own movements or have been part of mixed-gender social political movements. Unfortunately, though women participated very actively in all the agitations and movements for the formation of the separate state they got a very raw deal at the hands of the male politicians and we have very few women representatives in the assembly and not much is written about their participation in these movements. History by and large focuses more on men and we only have information about men’s role in these struggles and not much documentation and information about women.
