What is it about?
This research looks at the Google Home app to find common problems when translating apps into other languages (a process called "localisation"). We identified 11 types of translation mistakes that can happen because the text is often fragmented and shown to translators without its original context.

Everyone uses mobile apps, but we know very little about the specific challenges of translating them. This study is one of the first to create a clear list of the typical problems. Understanding these issues is the first step to fixing them and making apps that work well and feel natural in any language.
