What is it about?

This interdisciplinary chapter considers musical text and performance in their productive relation rather than opposition involving media studies, performance studies and ethnomusicology as methodological framework.

Why is it important?

The chapter questions and tries to overcome dichotomies in the musicological discourse on musical performance by encouraging more nuanced and flexible categorizations, involving "performance script" as a cognitive schema triggered by the performers' agency.

Perspectives

I hope this chapter helps rethink the text/performance relation in musicology and overcome the dichotomy.
