Why is it important?

Unnecessary blood units loss and donors may be rejected

Perspectives

As drugs and cosmetic act forbids use of components with altered color, high colored plasma (yellow) signifies more of bilirubin which may or may not be pathological. In healthy voluntary blood donors the most common reason is Gilberts syndrome which is trivial and does not cause any adverse effect in spite of mild increase in bilirubin levels even in neonates. Hence such Fresh frozen plasma and platelets can be used for better inventory management
