What is it about?

Various kinds of raw starting materials have been used for Geopolymer synthesis. This paper summarizes the current information on the usage of raw materials in geopolymer production by categorizing its types and sources. In details, raw starting materials can be categorized into three majors divisions viz. Industrial wastes (IWs), General wastes (GWs) and Natural minerals (NMs).

Why is it important?

The summarised details of chemical composition and compressive strength could provide a guideline for readers to evaluate possible reactions or outputs of their selected local raw materials as well as the prediction of material’s combination for the improvement of targeted strength of each possible prime material.

Perspectives

Various types of prime materials have been used to produce Geopolymer cement. Some of them are well-known and widely used, but some of them are rarely found e.g. local materials; volcanic ashes, Diatomite or local bio-based ashes. This summary could be a guideline for exploring any other possible raw materials for the production of geopolymer cement.
