Why is it important?

The field of AT has come a long way since universal design was first introduced and linear perspectives were at the forefront of assisting those with disabilities. Specialized software and devices once synonymous with AT are now commonplace. Unprecedented advancements in mobile computing, along with legislation and the collective movement towards inclusive settings make it no better time to strive for AT equity in terms of universal implementation. Unlike other books focused almost exclusively on cutting-edge technology, or are limited to specific applications in the classroom, this work offers transdisciplinary perspectives by the contributing authors currently involved in different facets of AT and who collectively build on their expertise to share visions of the future.

Perspectives

This contribution serves as a resource for those who are interested in what is possible in supporting individual’s disabilities in K-12 and higher education as well as in the communities where their contributions to society will occur.
