What is it about?
It is one of my published research. This article presents a new robust population estimation method for probability proportional to size (PPS) sampling that is designed to handle extreme or unusual observations commonly found in engineering and industrial data. The proposed estimator reduces the influence of outliers while preserving the advantages of PPS sampling, leading to more accurate, stable, and efficient estimates. Its performance is demonstrated using real engineering datasets and compared with existing PPS estimators, showing its potential to improve survey accuracy and support more reliable engineering and operational decision-making.ch article

Why is it important?
Accurate estimation is essential for making reliable engineering and industrial decisions. In practice, engineering survey data often contain extreme observations caused by sensor faults, equipment malfunctions, production variability, or measurement errors. These unusual values can reduce the accuracy of conventional probability proportional to size (PPS) estimators and lead to misleading conclusions. The proposed robust estimator minimizes the influence of such extreme observations while maintaining the benefits of PPS sampling, resulting in more dependable estimates. This improves the quality of survey-based decision-making, supports better resource allocation, enhances quality control and risk management, and provides a practical statistical tool for engineering, manufacturing, and industrial applications where reliable data analysis is critical.
Perspectives
I hope this article makes what people might think is a boring, slightly abstract area like health economics and measuring things like health, kind of interesting and maybe even exciting. Because the way we spend money on health and social care is not just a problem for politicians, managers and researchers to worry about - it is an issue that touches every single human being on this planet in one way or another. More than anything else, and if nothing else, I hope you find this article thought-provoking.
