Why is it important?

There is no satisfactory treatment in Sjogren syndrome and other autoimmune diseases that cause dry eye. Current treatment like steroids have adverse effects such as raised intraocular pressure. Cyclosporine is not as potent as corticosteroids.

Perspectives

Pharmaceutical company can use this model to evaluate new topical anti-inflammatory treatment in dry eye.
