Perspectives
Entrepreneurship plays a critical role in driving innovation and economic diversification, particularly in nations like the UAE that are transitioning to a knowledge-based economy. From my perspective, this study is not only an academic endeavor but also a practical blueprint for policymakers, educators, and institutions aiming to cultivate a vibrant entrepreneurial culture among Emirati youth. 1. Empowering Emirati Youth: The findings emphasize the importance of self-efficacy in overcoming risk aversion. I believe fostering self-confidence and practical entrepreneurial skills among young Emiratis is essential for empowering them to embrace opportunities and navigate uncertainties effectively. 2. Addressing Fear of Failure: Fear of failure emerged as a significant barrier in this study. This highlights the need for societal and institutional shifts to normalize failure as part of the entrepreneurial journey. I advocate for education and mentorship programs that encourage resilience, experimentation, and learning from setbacks. 3. Strengthening Government and Institutional Support: The role of government support in reducing risk aversion cannot be overstated. As the UAE continues to champion entrepreneurship, I see an opportunity to expand support mechanisms, such as funding, incubation programs, and access to resources, to ensure young entrepreneurs feel equipped to take calculated risks. 4. Promoting Innovative Mindsets: The study underscores the need to cultivate innovative thinking among youth. I view universities and educational institutions as critical in this regard, serving as hubs for creativity, prototyping, and collaboration that prepare students for real-world entrepreneurial challenges. 5. Implications for Policy and Practice: The insights from this research provide actionable guidance for policymakers aiming to align national strategies with youth entrepreneurship goals. By addressing the barriers and fostering an enabling environment, the UAE can position itself as a global leader in youth-led innovation and sustainable entrepreneurship. This publication reflects my deep commitment to advancing youth entrepreneurship as a pillar of socio-economic development and a key driver of the UAE’s future prosperity.
