What is it about?

In the article we looked at the taxonomy and geographical distribution of the genus Piper, we summarised the phytochemistry of the group concentrating on the volatile components, we summarised the traditional and modern applications of the extracts derived from the species, and we looked at the preclinical and clinical evidence of therapeutic effects

Why is it important?

It gives a useful bird's eye view of this taxonomic group in terms of their volatile content and possible applications

Perspectives

It was a daunting task to collate data on this very large and diverse group of plants, but it was a great opportunity for me to review this group, hopefully it will be of help to other researchers
