What is it about?

Our research is focused on the emerging concept of Smart Heritage, which involves converging smart city initiatives with heritage conservation efforts within local government contexts. We provide a comprehensive understanding of the interdisciplinary relationships, influence, and strategic aspirations that underpin the implementation of Smart Heritage. By drawing on interviews with advisors from local governments in Australia, the study investigates how the smart city and heritage disciplines intersect to form this novel interdisciplinary discourse. The findings reveal a case-by-case working relationship between the disciplines, indicating the emergence of Smart Heritage within local government, albeit with some uncertainties. Additionally, the research highlights how these interdisciplinary relationships influence broader considerations within the local government context, leading to innovative aspirations for heritage and smart city matters. Overall, this study establishes a foundational understanding of Smart Heritage within the framework of local government, offering valuable insights into this evolving interdisciplinary discourse.
