What is it about?

 This article is intended to explore how Taiwan’s design education has developed along with its economic and design development. Taiwan’s economic development is first reviewed to understand the success of Taiwan’s design development. Then, Taiwan’s design education development and its related design activities are introduced to show their connection with local culture and global market.  在全球化的競爭下,「全球市場,在地設計」已經是設計創意的趨勢。台灣經濟發展的型式從過去代工生產的時代(OEM),係以科技為基礎,關心的是功能(Function)和使用(Use)。進入自行設計的時代(ODM),設計創意就益形重要,關心的是愉悅(Feeling)和使用者(User)。當自創品牌的時期(OBM),高感質(Hi-touch)就變成設計的核心價值,需要人文與藝術涵養來加持

Why is it important?

 Taiwan’s design education system is analyzed starting with the change of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) in general education, to SAD (Science, Arts and Design) in design education and CHEER (Collaboration, Humanity, Empathy, Ecology and Renaissance) in design practice.  全世界很少國家像台灣這樣經歷從OEM --> ODM --> OBM完整的過程,其實這也代表一個設計演化過程(design evolution)。這個過程反應台灣的經濟發展如何從設計科技,演變到形成美學經濟與文化創意核心價值的人文藝術。本研究係從跨領域的設計思維,探討台灣未來的設計教育如何因應,主要目的有三: (1) 探討各校教育目標的特色,是否符合時代脈動;(2) 評估學生學習的績效與產業晉用成果;(3) 提出跨領域思維下台灣設計教育未來發展,並提出因應與解決的方法。
