What is it about?
This is a model study on air pollution affecting Mei-Yu precipitation, which provides basic analysis on the dynamical and physical processes in precipitation under polluted conditions. Above all, a conceptual model of aerosol-cloud interaction is first built to explain the aerosol effect on Mei-Yu frontal precipitation.

Why is it important?
The Mei-Yu front is an important summer precipitation system in eastern Asia. In recent years, anthropogenic air pollution over the Yangtze-Huaihe region of China has been aggravating continuously. Does air pollution influence the Mei-Yu precipitation? The research gives an answer through model simulation.
Perspectives
Model study helps understand the basic physical processes in forming cloud and precipitation, while observations can provide the direct proof to validate model results. Both should be combined to ultimately improve our knowledge about aerosol-cloud-precipitation processes, which deserves our further research in future.
