What is it about?

Bacteria produce antibiotics. However, the genes encoding proteins responsible for antibiotic production are typically not expressed under laboratory conditions, hampering discovery of novel compounds. This review discusses the role of global transcriptional regulators in controlling expression of genes involved in antibiotic production.
