What is it about?
We summarise techniques that are used to genetically sequence planktonic Foraminifera. All steps as well as alternative approaches in each step are described and tested concerning their influence in sequencing success rates.

Why is it important?
There were no uniform protocols available for sequencing of planktonic Foraminifera. This made comparisons between studies difficult and made it complicated to start working in that field without prior knowledge. We provide such standardised techniques for future studies.
