What is it about?

Deepfakes are becoming a great public concern as AI and language model algorithms and systems get to (almost fully) mimic human text, sound, images, and videos. This paper delves deep into this "world" by approaching it through a comprehensive investigation into its associated metadata from Web of Science and Scopus, as well as reviewing prominent works, deriving lessons, and providing recommendations. This paper is for researchers, policy makers, practitioners, and all those concerned about the phenomenon of deepfakes in general

Why is it important?

A comprehensive effort that covers many details on the most critical as well as diverse aspects of deepfake research. The aim is to capture a large portion of the fast-paced research in the area of deepfakes. It also leverages detailed extraction from VoSviewer results, which implies a multitude of terminologies based on extraction from hundreds of peer-reviewed journal papers, helping readers identify key terms, emerging trends, commonly used algorithms and datasets, and the most pressing concerns in the field. It is hoped this will help readers quickly navigate the research landscape

Perspectives

I hope this paper will benefit readers and provide new insights and perspectives, spurring research in the coming years
