Given the perspective that in the last two decades, mining has witnessed a phenomenal growth, this paper is of first kind to detect data anomaly in mining statistics in India. A difference by 125% regarding number of miners in India between National Sample Survey Organisation, Director General of Mines Safety and Indian Bureau of Mines is related to the methods adopted for collecting data.
