What is it about?

We present an LF-RFID based indoor localization system implemented using commercial off-the-shelf components. The 2D localization performance of the proposed system in a challenging indoor environment is presented and it is compared with the performance of UHF-RFID based localization system in the exact same environment.

Why is it important?

The proposed technique is less sensitive to the environment and offers better performance in cluttered indoor environments compared to traditional UHF based techniques. Superior localization performance of LF-RFID technology in addition to its identification capability makes it more useful for location based services such as security, guidance and asset tracking within smart cities.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure as the work presented in the article is a part of collaboration between academic laboratories and an RFID manufacturer.
