What is it about?
We show that the interconnections between MLB players on the same team (often referred to as team synergy or team chemistry) can explain a significant portion of team performance that advanced sabermetric measures like "wins-above-replacement" cannot.

Why is it important?
Our modeling strategy, based on network analysis, allows us to decompose team synergy/chemistry into its sources and, thus, provides a first step toward allowing general managers to quantify its importance in roster construction.
