What is it about?

Nowadays, it is clear that antioxidants are the materials which can fight with free radical agents and decrease the incidence of many diseases, like cancers, which are induced by free radicals. Rosemary extract (which obtain from its plant) has powerful antioxidant factors, like carnosic acid. In this research, we studied the protective effects of rosemary extract on rats.

Why is it important?

In this research, we fed the rosemary extract (which contained 40% carnosic acid), to the rats. Also, we induced a kind of injury to their Hippocampus. After almost 3 weeks, we found that rosemary extract could prevent the memory loss and the death of hippocampal neurons.

Perspectives

We hope that the results of this research could encourage the people to use the rosemary plant as a food additive or in its pure shape (like the extract) and by this action, help removing the harmful effects of free radicals, which are collecting in the body during the ageing.
