What is it about?
Can DL-based CAD systems be integrated into the workflow of radiology departments during the night shift to improve the diagnostic performance of CT rib fractures? This paper conducted a preliminary clinical study specifically designed for the night shift and confirmed its feasibility.

Why is it important?
During the night shift, radiologist reading with a CAD system as the concurrent reader can improve sensitivity without increasing FPS and achieve the same diagnostic performance as independent reading performed during the day shift. It reduced missed or misdiagnosed rib fractures which are likely to lead to medical disputes during the day shift.
Perspectives
I hope this article makes what people might think is a boring, slightly abstract area like health economics and measuring things like health, kind of interesting and maybe even exciting. Because the way we spend money on health and social care is not just a problem for politicians, managers and researchers to worry about - it is an issue that touches every single human being on this planet in one way or another.
