What is it about?

This study describes the methodology used for the literary review of trending topics in the area of ergonomics, musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), treatment, and return to work in manual jobs by applying the PRISMA 2020 flow chart for paper selection and Science Mapping for the application of a co-word network whose interpretation shows us the latest trends in this branch of science.

Why is it important?

The following methodology was implemented to address the need for replicability, robustness, and relevance in scientometric studies. This methodology was applied to a transversal topic, specifically the ergonomic risk exposure and its potential effects and actions on workers, using research published in three bibliographic databases over the past 12 years on a global scale.

Perspectives

The present methodology could serve as a useful framework for assessing the state of the art in any scientific field where systematic reviews of studies and the employment of science mapping for data interpretation are implemented.
