What is it about?

The paper describes the High-Level Group for the Modernisation of Official Statistics (HLG-MOS). This group was setup by twelve Chief Statisticians to advance the modernisation of how statistics are being produced. This includes using new data sources such as Big Data. The focus of the article is on why the HLG-MOS has been successful.

Why is it important?

The HLG-MOS has been named the single most important entity for the advancement of official statistics. Lessons learned about its structure, innovation pipeline, and agility to keep adjusting to take up new challenges, can are useful for other modernisation (and other) initiatives that aim to improve their impact.

Perspectives

It has been great to see an ever increasing community keep on taking up complex challenges and succeed time and again to achieve set goals and to keep staying ahead in the modernisation/innovation quest. It is nice being able to share what the key elements were that have made this possible.
