Why is it important?
Melanoma is the sixth leading US cancer and the only cancer of the top 10 without a decline in the death rate. The incidence if tis cancer is increasing worldwide.
Perspectives
This review looks at the current data to support screening for high risk individuals for skin cancer including malignant melanoma. We also discuss the importance of educating primary care physicians in skin cancer detection. Early detection is the key to reduce mortality in tis disease.
