What is it about?

We examined the alterations of neurotransmitters and neuropeptides in the brainstem, the hippocampus and the hypothalamus in major depression. We derive a multimodal pharmacotherapy of major depression, after we described neural networks in the brain regions.

Why is it important?

There are different antidepressant drugs. Antidepressant drugs interfering with the neurotransmitters serotonin, noradrenaline and dopamine have different therapeutic effects. New therapeutic options block specific receptors of the neurotransmitters glutamate and GABA.

Perspectives

The description of neural networks in the brain regions involved in major depression was continued.
