What is it about?
Standardised language tests are part of the Spanish education system, but their current model has little to do with real language use: it does not consider the shift from paper to computer, information search or multimodal communication. This theoretical paper proposes a new construct for language testing that includes these functions, and the design of an online multimodal exam adapted to the new needs of the university entrance examination.

Why is it important?
Starting from a review of current research that shows the need to change the construct, the paper proposes a model for this high-stakes exam based on a new view of language proficiency and multimodal interaction in computer-based exams. This model could change the way technology-based exams are understood and could be applied to most current exams.
Perspectives
This paper, written with Jesús García Laborda and Teresa Magal-Royo, continues my work on the English test of the Spanish university entrance examination, which I have studied since my doctoral thesis.
