What is it about?

The Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture wanted to use the lake as reservoir for agriculture and diverted a river into it. After the river was diverted into the lake it diluted the previously high saline water of the lake, brought a lot of sediments and suspended materials which prevent light penetration and reduce primary productivity of the lake. As result of this the phytoplankton, zooplankton and fish species composition has been changed.
