Why is it important?

The term “preference” holds an essential place in the Holy Qurʾān as it appears frequently and in various forms, indicating its centrality as a fundamental concept and a basis for obligations. The abundance and diversity of its applications in different contexts further highlight its importance, validating the central role of this term in its connection to the fate of humankind. The study concludes with a definition that describes preference as “an increase in grace and honour from the Almighty Creator, symbolising gratitude and forgiveness, and ultimately leading to completeness in the Hereafter, without any possibility of humiliation to follow.”

Perspectives

This study highlights the significance of the term “preference” for humankind, particularly due to its frequent occurrences and diverse grammatical forms in the Qurʾān. New avenues for studying the term’s inner and outer scope come into view and, more specifically, for understanding its applications in the Holy Qurʾān
