What is it about?

This work displays how novel, non-conventional electrode systems can be used for providing high accuracy and precision measurements of next generation materials. The work focuses on integrating two types and scales of materials together, both made from carbon nanotubes. Their synergistic effect causes the nanocomposites to be self diagnostic without any loss in mechanical performance.

Why is it important?

It is the first work to show how different scales and forms of carbon can be combined to monitor multifunctional nanocomposites.

Perspectives

For next generation composites, complete systems which do not affect their properties is very important. This work is the first to show how this may be done.
