What is it about?

Ejection of liquid into vacuum is highly relevant to living in a space station. Liquid breakup and dispersal in vacuum are remarkably different from its behaviours in the atmosphere.

Why is it important?

Water, diglycol, glycerol and their mixtures are ejected into low-pressure environments of 5.4 to 40 Pa and their characteristics are measured. The type of liquid has a significant impact on the subsequent dynamic processes after ejection. Phenomena such as violent flash evaporation and frozen particles are observed. The different mechanisms are identified.
