What is it about?
The potential of the detonation combustion has re-drawn a lot of attention in recent propulsion studies, regarding its high thermal efficiency in energy utilization. As one of the most promising detonation devices, the rotating detonation engine (RDE), characterized by its high operation frequency and the simple combustor structure, has been intensively investigated in ongoing studies. The present study goes on to experimentally investigate the detonation wave dynamics in an ethylene-air RDE combustor. The objective of this paper is to investigate the detonation wave modes with the relatively less-studied hydrocarbon fuel.
