What is it about?

The single wall pin-fin cooling is a widely used internal cooling concept. for the modern gas turbines. Most recently, the double-wall cooling concepts have shown some marked improvement. However, the double-wall concepts introduce additional manufacturing and integration challenges for the turbine designer. In this paper, we proposed two engine scale design concepts that can be designed with additive manufacturing. The proposed double-wall design not only improves the cooling performance but also recovers the pressure losses. In addition, we showed the detailed heat transfer mechanism for the proposed design that would be instrumental for the designer.
