Professional networking, both in-person and electronic, makes a difference for the organizational commitment of human resource management professionals.

Why is it important?
Burnout leads to lower organizational and professional commitment. However, when human resource management professionals engage in higher levels of professional networking, this reduces the impact of burnout on their commitment levels, that is, the impact is less negative when networking is higher. This is the first time this has been found for HR professionals.
Perspectives
Support for professional development, including networking, is often cut when organizations are seeking to reduce costs. This study shows the value to HR professionals of networking, including attending conferences, or participating in online networking activities.
