What is it about?

The research sets to investigate the behaviour of steel connection where a plate is welded to a rectangular hollow section tube, of the type found in wind bracings of tall buildings.

Why is it important?

Understanding well the behaviour of such connections is very important as they are important structural components (bracings) in tall buildings. The effect of a number of parameters, such as tube thickness, plate thickness, etc., on the performance of the connection is still not well understood .

Perspectives

I carried this research for British Steel many years ago, and the topic is still relevant and important. Although they are better understood, there is scope to do more research on them.
