What is it about?
B lymphocytes play complex roles in autoimmune disease including T1D. While it is clear that B cell function marks risk for T1D by production of autoantibodies, the precise steps by which they contribute to disease progression are not known. In this article, we present an entirely new role for B lymhocytes--interfering and limiting the function of Tregs. This disinhibition model is a new framework for disease progression and presents new opportunities for intervention.
