What is it about?

Many potent drugs are available for arthritis therapy, but they are taken by mouth or injection and therefore, are widely distributed in the body. This leads to toxicity to healthy organs. We describe here a novel approach to target such drugs to the affected joints. We used a peptide that guides the drug-containing liposomes to affected joints, and thereby improves the efficacy of that drug. This approach can be tailored for use in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
