What is it about?
Most cancer cells produce excessive acid compared to surrounding healthy tissue, which serves as a target for detecting and killing these cells. This study uncovered how tumors fight back efforts to neutralize the acidic environment and postulates a reason why the widely used pH-neutralizing calcium carbonate nanoparticles are in themselves less effective as a therapeutic agent.
