What is it about?

Through this e-book we intend to open our eyes and look for young people interests and expectations in the beginning of the XXI century. The book is intended to be a starting point to help educators, teachers and parents to value and reflect about the young people concerns and interests. Through the examples depicted in this book readers will find a great variety of images, visual messages and ultimately metaphors which might help us to understand contemporary youth culture in some places of the world. The book is based on the findings of a team of researchers from eleven countries who collected students’ drawing (aged 15-18 years old). The drawings not only provide a description of the life-style, surroundings and local culture of their authors, but also can tell us what students think about life and show their visions of the world. The drawings are from students in schools of Australia, Brazil, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Israel, Japan, Spain, Mozambique, Minnesota/USA and Portugal.

To understand young people's concerns, hopes and fears through visual story telling.

Perspectives

This E-book was a collaborative work with several visual art teachers, trying to make visible the voice of young people from different countries during 2008-2009. It is a rich collection of commented drawings through the lens of visual art educators.
