What is it about?

We assessed actual barriers to blood glucose control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and investigated barrier-related factors in an exploratory manner.

Why is it important?

Interesting findings are that the relevant barriers differed for macrovascular and microvascular complications, and the relationship between the presence of macrovascular complications and lack of concern about diabetes mellitus.

Perspectives

It was required to check the awareness of the importance of glycemic control and prevent the lowering concern about glycemic control by focusing on other risks (eg. smoking, obesity, hypertension, and/or dyslipidemia) particularly for patients with other risks.
