What is it about?

The paper describes non-specific toxic effects of AOT-stabilized silver nanoparticles in two cell lines, HeLa and U937. To evaluate toxicity, MTT assay and annexin binding technique were used.

Why is it important?

Our data allows to clarify dose-dependent cytotoxicity of surfactant-stabilized nanoparticles and also notes the importance of nanoparticle characteristics during cell-nanoparticle interaction.

Perspectives

This may be useful as an example of the evidence of cytotoxicity of silver nanoparticles and could be a start point for the studies aimed to explain the impact of nanoparticle characteristics on interaction with living systems.
