What is it about?
Sjogren syndrome is a debilitating disease presenting as dry eye, dry mouth and sometimes other problems. The nature of the autoantigen that causes the disease is largely unknown. This article summaries what some of the suspected antigens are and the nature of the scientific evidence for these.

Why is it important?
It may be possible to classify Sjogren syndrome better, based on these antigens. In the future it may also be possible to target specific antigens in immunotherapies.
Perspectives
There is still no universally best panel for diagnosis of dry eye based on systemic antigens.
