What is it about?

By opening specific arteries responsible for the irrigation of the wound zone, healing process could be enhanced.

Why is it important?

Targeted revascularisation may help patients to heal quicker ischemic ulcers, with less hospital stay.

Perspectives

Targeted revascularisation is technically not easy to achieve. Currently, the specific angiosome artery dedicated to the wound harbors the heaviest atherosclerotic occlusive and calcific disease. New, and more performant endo-luminal tools are needed (parallel to technological progresses) in order to achieve intentional recanalizations in most challenging chronic total occlusions.
